BMT Group creates a new force in environmental electronic data capture and maritime services

22-Feb-2010

Ocean Current AnalysisThe BMT Group, the leading international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has announced the strengthening of its environmental and maritime software service offering with the merger of three companies, BMT SeaTech, BMT ARGOSS and the Southampton and Polish businesses of BMT Cordah.

The merged entity will retain the name of BMT ARGOSS, a company which is already synonymous in the MetOcean sector for providing innovative environmental services and information systems to international energy, shipping and port customers.

The complementary capabilities of each company are being brought together to offer customers full turn-key solutions at a time when shipping and oil and gas providers are facing major challenges.

With issues such as rising fuel costs and calls for reductions in CO2 emissions, ship owners are looking now, more than ever, to optimise the effectiveness of their vessels in a safe manner. Bringing the group's capabilities together means that BMT ARGOSS can not only provide world renowned hydrodynamics knowledge in vessel design and efficient operation, but can further offer weather forecasting expertise and solutions for emissions reduction to deliver better performance.

BMT has been successfully delivering a range of these services through the ‘SMART' suite of products, developed in conjunction with industry partners, ship operators and Masters. The results of these successes have been seen in increased ship performance, safety and reduced costs.

In the Oil and Gas sector, BMT is working with oil majors to provide environmental information, particularly in harsh environments such as strong currents, high waves, ice, etc. Information systems are providing much needed input at the planning and design stages as well as supporting day to day operations.

As well as delivering to the oil and gas and shipping sectors, BMT ARGOSS will continue to work with Governments to provide environmental information systems to meet EU directives. Flood protection modelling, noise mapping, clean air and infrastructure management are areas being targeted and BMT has extensive experience in all of them. Most recently, BMT successfully produced a noise mapping model in Gdansk that went on to be adopted in towns and cities throughout Poland.

Han Wensink, Managing Director, BMT ARGOSS, said: ""This merger is an important step designed to best serve the needs of our customers. Each of the three subsidiaries provides a specialist offering that combine together to deliver world leading environmental and maritime electronic data capture services assisting our customers facilitate effective planning of operations."
